Tokara Boerboels is owned by Andre Basson, with his wife Arlene and daughter Nicole, on a smallholding north of Pretoria in Onderstepoort.[1] The kennel began breeding in 2008 from foundation dogs Bismark and Nina, with early mentorship from Lukas van Vuuren of Spitsvuur.[1] Its dogs are bred and sold in adherence to the rules and standards of the SA Boerboel Breeders' Association (SABBA), and breeding dogs carry hip and elbow scores.[2] The stated breeding focus is temperament, robust stature, and agility.[2] A Tokara-bred male, Tokara Tambo, was appraised at 97.2% in Italy in July 2017 under NABBA, an independent record of the kennel's breeding output.[3] The most recent verifiable dated public activity is that 2017 appraisal; the kennel's own website shows litter content only through 2014.[3]
