Boerboel Puppy Contracts: What Should Be in One
A written contract is one of the clearest signs you're dealing with a serious breeder. Here's what a good Boerboel puppy contract covers.
Health guarantee
- A defined coverage period for congenital and hereditary conditions (commonly hips and elbows).
- What the remedy is (refund, replacement, partial refund) and what proof is required.
- Any conditions that void it (e.g. feeding requirements, keeping the dog at a healthy weight).
Health records and testing
- Vaccination and deworming records to date.
- Copies of the parents' health-testing results — cross-check them against the health testing records where possible.
Spay/neuter and breeding rights
- Whether the puppy is sold on a pet (spay/neuter) or breeding contract.
- Registration type and whether papers are limited or full.
Return and rehoming clause
- A take-back policy requiring the dog be returned to the breeder if you can no longer keep it.
Deposit and payment terms
- Whether the deposit is refundable, and the full price and payment schedule. Compare against typical Boerboel pricing.
Red flags
A breeder who won't put anything in writing is a warning sign — see our breeders-to-avoid checklist. When you're ready, find a verified breeder in our directory.
